Jotter Review
Jotter is the Swiss-Army Knife of all the different
pay-to-surf bars. The company has incorporated a lot of helpful things
into this little bar, and you even get paid $0.50/h to use it!
Basic Overview
The basic way things work is similar to the other
pay-to-surf companies. Once you have signed up and downloaded the bar,
all you need to do is run it. At the first run you will need to enter
your user ID and password (which were emailed to you) and fill in a
short interest registration. After that you can leave the bar running
while you are online, a green $ sign will show that you are earning
money.
The full-size bar looks like this:
You can drag the bar anywhere on the screen and it becomes shorter,
and you can even make it less wide if you use the preferences options
and remove the news/stocks ticker.
The Jotter Bar
The greatest thing about Jotter is NOT the
money! Jotter is a fantastic pay-to-surf company to advertise to
people who are new to the concept. The bar looks great, delivers news
and stock quotes, is very stable and has a lot of functions that can
be done with one click: Fill forms, Remember IDs and passwords,
Bookmark sites, View site's privacy ratings, Find out who owns the
site, Email, Websearch, Comparison shop, Reminders, heck .. it even
plays your CDs and MP3s! And all this for free. Better than free,
$0.50/h! No wonder Yahoo Internet Life calls Jotter "The Swiss Army
Knife of Internet Utilities" and PC World Magazine calls Jotter "The
Best Digital Wallet". And once you have managed to get your friend to
use Jotter, you can start showing him all the other (less pretty)
pay-to-surf companies too...
The only 'bad' thing about jotter is that you NEED to have a
reasonably recent system. System requirements require Windows
(95,98,2000,NT4) with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher (or
Netscape 4.0 or higher)... and a Pentium 200 or higher with 32M RAM or
more. In addition you need the latest Microsoft Java Virtual Machine
(JVM 5.00.3167). If your machine qualifies, go for it!
The Money
When the bar is running you are making $0.50/h, and
$0.05/h (10%) for everyone under you for 4 levels, then $0.03 for 5th
level, and $0.02 for the 6th level. New Jotter users even get a $5
gift certificate to spend anywhere on the web (limited time
offer). The maximum hours you can get paid / month is currently 15h
(so only your own surfing gives you $7.50/month). Jotter has no policy
against multiple accounts, you can create profiles for your family or
even make accounts for home & work use respectively. Jotter accepts
international users and they can use the bar and collect money on
their accounts, but currently they are sending checks to US and CA
only. The minimum amount for a check to be sent is $50.
